NIJAC share best practice in Judicial Appointments at Tri-Partite Conference

The Northern Ireland Judicial Appointments Commission (NIJAC) has taken part in a Tri-Partite Conference on Judicial Appointments with its sister bodies, the Judicial Appointments Commission (JAC) for England and Wales and the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland (JABS).

The event held annually, and this year hosted in London on February 5, discussed themes around strategic approaches, merit and engagement.

Chief Executive Officer of the Northern Ireland Judicial Appointments Commission (NIJAC) Tonya McCormac commented:

The Tri-Partite continues to be a valuable and informative event which brings benefits to each of the three organisations involved, sharing best practice in judicial appointments.

This year we discussed matters relating to strategic approaches, defining merit and how best to engage and build relationships with partners and stakeholders.

In 2024, NIJAC was awarded the highly regarded Diversity Mark Accreditation, acknowledging NIJAC’s commitment to progressing Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) in the workplace, something we are building on, in 2025. We look forward to  welcoming our colleagues to Belfast in 2026 and sharing best practice across our three organisations.

NIJAC’s Chair, Lady Chief Justice The Right Honourable Dame Siobhan Keegan remarked:

“The engagement identifies opportunities for wider collaboration, where we share learning and embrace opportunities for positive change, reflecting NIJAC’s values of openness, integrity, innovation and respect and reinforcing the organisation’s position as forward thinking, effective and independent.

Despite differences in the specific role and scale of each organisation, the lessons from each Judicial Appointments body continue to be directly applicable to each other across a wide range of work.”

The next Tri-Partite Conference will be hosted by NIJAC, in Belfast in 2026.
