NIJAC continues to actively encourage a diverse applicant pool for judicial appointments through the ongoing implementation its Programme of Action that includes:
Tailored Scheme Outreach Plans for all competitions;
Working with others to promote and enhance understanding of judicial opportunities;
Extending our understanding of the challenges and barriers to achieving Judicial diversity and doing what we can to alleviate or eliminate.
NIJAC raises awareness through its regularly issued e-News and outreach activity. All schemes are advertised and communicated on our website, in our newsletter, through our stakeholder network electronically, and in the relevant national press and professional journals.
An outreach plan is devised at the outset of every scheme which will comprise a range of sector specific organisations and departments with contact details of the relevant individuals who can distribute the advertisement on NIJAC’s behalf.
NIJAC places an equal opportunities statement (see below) on all advertisements that appear in the press to help to promote equality of opportunity.
‘NIJAC is committed to equality of opportunity for all who are eligible for judicial office and welcomes applications from women and men from all backgrounds and sections of the community. NIJAC will appoint those who appear to NIJAC to be the most suitable based on merit, regardless of gender, marital status, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, religious belief, political opinion, disability, age or dependant responsibilities’.
