NIJAC is anticipating the following opportunities will be advertised during 2024 and into 2025.
All NIJAC schemes automatically maintain a reserve list for 15 months, from the anticipated date of first appointment, to accommodate any unforeseen vacancies.
President of the Appeal Tribunals
To be eligible for appointment a person must:
(i) have a general qualification within the meaning of section 71 of the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990 of at least 10 years standing; or
(ii) be an advocate or solicitor admitted in Scotland of at least 10 years standing; or
(iii) be a member of the Bar of Northern Ireland, or solicitor of the Court of Judicature of Northern Ireland, of at least 10 years standing.
Care Legal
To be eligible for appointment a person must be: a member of the Bar of Northern Ireland of at least ten years’ standing; or a solicitor of the Court of Judicature of Northern Ireland of at least ten years’ standing.
County Court Judge
To be eligible for appointment a person must be: a member of the Bar of Northern Ireland of at least ten years’ standing; or a solicitor of the Court of Judicature of Northern Ireland of at least ten years’ standing.
Vice President of the Industrial Tribunals and Fair Employment Tribunal
The Vice-President of the Fair Employment Tribunal and of the Industrial Tribunals must be a barrister or solicitor of not less than seven years’ standing.
Salaried Legally Qualified Member of the Appeal Tribunals
To be eligible for appointment, Salaried Legally Qualified Members of the Appeal Tribunals must be barristers, or solicitors.
Criminal Injuries Compensation Appeals Panel (CICAP) Lay
To be eligible for appointment as a CICAP Lay Adjudicator a person must be able to demonstrate substantial (a minimum of 2 years) experience of dealing with victims of violent crime.
This experience may have been acquired within the community, voluntary, public or private sector. Examples may include the Justice Sector, Emergency Services or as Mental Health Personnel. This list is not exhaustive.
