In 2008, NIJAC published research papers into the barriers and disincentives to judicial office.
This independent research was carried out by the School of Law, Queens University Belfast (QUB) and the Northern Ireland Statistics & Research Agency (NISRA) between April 2007 and June 2008.
The research was a direct response to needs identified by NIJAC’s then Chairman, the Lord Chief Justice of Northern Ireland, Sir Brian Kerr, who made it clear that at that time, there was a need for NIJAC to "identify disincentives, speak to those eligible to apply, to those who will do so in the future and to those who are interested in securing a robust and reflective judiciary."
The research has been used to inform NIJAC’s work.
